Avenue of Baobabs

One of Madagascar’s most iconic landmarks, the Avenue of the Baobabs is a breathtaking natural wonder located near Morondava on the island’s west coast. Towering up to 30 meters high, these ancient “upside-down trees” are estimated to be more than 800 years old. The avenue creates a dramatic, almost surreal landscape, especially at sunrise and sunset when the golden light casts long shadows across the dusty road.

Nosy Komba

Nosy Komba is a tranquil volcanic island known for its lush forests, charming villages, and relaxed atmosphere. The island is free of cars and offers a peaceful escape where visitors can immerse themselves in nature and local culture.

Nosy Komba is famous for its friendly black lemurs, which can be seen up close in the Lokobe Reserve. The island also offers excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving, with vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life just offshore. Its sandy beaches, traditional markets, and artisan craft shops make it an ideal stop for travelers seeking both adventure and authentic Malagasy experiences.

Nosy Iranja

Often called the “Turtle Island,” Nosy Iranja is one of Madagascar’s most spectacular island getaways. Located about 55 kilometers from Nosy Be, this paradise consists of two small islands connected by a dazzling white sandbank that appears at low tide, creating one of the most photographed sights in the region.

The island is renowned for its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and thriving marine life. It is also a nesting ground for sea turtles, which come ashore to lay their eggs on its protected beaches. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling, swimming, or simply relaxing in the serene setting, far removed from the bustle of the mainland. With its postcard-perfect scenery, Nosy Iranja is a must-visit for those seeking both natural beauty and tranquility.

Andasibe-Mantadia National Park

Just a few hours east of Antananarivo, Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is one of Madagascar’s most accessible and rewarding wildlife destinations. This lush rainforest is best known as the home of the Indri, the largest living lemur, whose haunting calls echo through the forest at dawn. Alongside the Indri, the park shelters over 100 bird species, colorful chameleons, orchids, and a wide variety of other lemurs.

The park is divided into two sections: Analamazaotra Reserve, popular for shorter treks and guaranteed lemur sightings, and the more rugged Mantadia Reserve, ideal for adventurous hikes through untouched rainforest. With misty canopies, cascading waterfalls, and incredible biodiversity, Andasibe-Mantadia offers a true immersion into Madagascar’s unique natural heritage.

Nosy Boraha

Off Madagascar’s east coast lies Nosy Boraha, also known as Île Sainte-Marie, a tropical island paradise famed for its palm-fringed beaches, crystal-clear waters, and laid-back charm. Once a pirate haven in the 17th century, the island still holds traces of this colorful past, including one of the world’s only pirate cemeteries.

Today, Nosy Boraha is best known as a premier destination for whale watching. Between July and September, hundreds of humpback whales migrate through the warm channel waters, offering unforgettable viewing opportunities from boat tours or even from the shore. The island also boasts excellent snorkeling and diving, with vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life. With its serene villages, lush coconut groves, and welcoming atmosphere, Nosy Boraha is the perfect spot for travelers seeking a blend of adventure, history, and relaxation.
